Hirohata Nagatada (広幡長忠)
Nagatada HIROHATA (May 21, 1711 - November 3, 1771) was a Kugyo (top court official) during the mid Edo period. He served mainly three generations of Emperor Nakamikado (the 114th), Emperor Sakuramachi (the 115th) and the Emperor Momozono (the 116th), and was promoted to Shonii Dainagon (Senior Second Rank, chief councilor of state). His father was Toyotada HIROHATA (Naidaijin [Minister of the Center]). His wife was the daughter of Fuyuhiro DAIGO (Sadaijin [Minister of the Left]). His children were Sakitoyo HIROHATA (Naidaijin) and Nobumichi KOGA (the adopted child of the Koga family and Naidaijin), and his daughters were the lawful wife of Yoshisue SAIONJI and the lawful wife of Shigemura DATE.
He was conferred peerage in 1720. Later, he was promoted successively up to Jusanmi (Junior Third Rank) in 1728 and was raised to Kugyo. He became Toka no sechie Geben (a kugyo who supervised many matters outside Jomei Gate at Toka no sechie, an Imperial Court ceremony) in 1729 and Chunagon (vice-councilor of state) in 1730. During the period from 1731 to 1735, he had served as Togu no daibu (Master of the Crown Prince's Quarters) of the Crown Prince (the Emperor Sakuramachi). That year, he became Shosanmi (Senior Third Rank). He became Dainagon in 1735. He was awarded Shonii in 1744. However, he entered into priesthood in 1756 and left the Imperial Court at the age of 46. His honored name was 承恵. He died in 1771. His age at death was 61.
